In the late nineteenth century, Father Charles Arminjon, a priest from the mountains of southeastern France, assembled his flock in the town cathedral to preach a series of conferences to help them turn their thoughts away from this life’s mean material affairs—and toward the next life’s glorious spiritual reward. His wise and uncompromising words deepened in them the spirit of recollection that all Christians must have: the abiding conviction that heavenly aims, not temporal enthusiasms, must guide everything we think, say, and do.
When Father Arminjon’s conferences were later published in a book, many others were able to reap the same benefit—including fourteen-year-old Thérèse Martin, then on the cusp of entering the Carmelite convent in Lisieux. Reading it, she says, “plunged my soul into a happiness not of this earth.” Young Thérèse, filled with a sense of “what God reserves for those who love him, and seeing that the eternal rewards had no proportion to the light sacrifices of life,” copied out numerous passages and memorized them, “repeating unceasingly the words of love burning in my heart.”

"In the evening, when I was in my cell, I saw the Lord Jesus clothed in a white garment. One hand [was] raised in the gesture of blessing, the other was touching the garment at the breast. "We had enjoyed the game for a few moments only, when a strong wind began to shake the trees. We looked up, startled, to see what was happening, for the day was unusually calm. Then we saw coming towards us, above the olive trees, the figure I have already spoken about. Jacinta and Francisco had never seen it before, nor had I ever mentioned it to them. As it drew closer, we were able to distinguish its features. It was a young man, about fourteen or fifteen years old, whiter than snow, transparent as crystal when the sun shines through it, and of great beauty. On reaching us, he said:
“Do not be afraid! I am the Angel of Peace. Pray with me.”
Kneeling on the ground, he bowed down until his forehead
touched the ground, and made us repeat these words three times: “My God, I believe, I adore, I hope and I love You! I ask pardon of You for those who do not believe, do not adore, do not hope and do not love You.”
Then, rising, he said: “Pray thus. The Hearts of Jesus and Mary are attentive to the voice of your supplications.”
His words engraved themselves so deeply on our minds that we could never forget them. From then on, we used to spend long periods of time, prostrate like the Angel, repeating his words, until sometimes we fell, exhausted. I warned my companions, right away, that this must bekept secret and, thank God, they did what I wanted."

It must have been in 1914 or 1915, shortly after I began to care for my parents flock of sheep, because I had already begun the life of a humble shepherd together with other children of the area, when we were surprised by an Apparition that completely puzzled us. Blessed Anna Katharina Emmerich - The Dolorous Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ
The Jews, having quite exhausted their barbarity, shut Jesus up in a little vaulted prison, the remains of which subsist to this day. Two of the archers alone remained with him, and they were soon replaced by two others. "Begins the exposition of the stanzas which treat of the way and manner which the soul follows upon the road of the union of love with God.
Before we enter upon the exposition of these stanzas, it is well to understand here that the soul that utters them is now in the state of perfection, which is the union of love with God, having already passed through severe trials and straits, by means of spiritual exercise in the narrow way of eternal life whereof Our Saviour speaks in the Gospel, along which way the soul ordinarily passes in order to reach this high and happy union with God. Since this road (as the Lord Himself says likewise) is so strait, and since there are so few that enter by it,19 the soul considers it a great happiness and good chance to have passed along it to the said perfection of love, as it sings in this first stanza, calling this strait road with full propriety 'dark night,' as will be explained hereafter in the lines of the said stanza."

"Begins the exposition of the stanzas which treat of the way and manner which the soul follows upon the road of the union of love with God.
Before we enter upon the exposition of these stanzas, it is well to understand here that the soul that utters them is now in the state of perfection, which is the union of love with God, having already passed through severe trials and straits, by means of spiritual exercise in the narrow way of eternal life whereof Our Saviour speaks in the Gospel, along which way the soul ordinarily passes in order to reach this high and happy union with God. Since this road (as the Lord Himself says likewise) is so strait, and since there are so few that enter by it,19 the soul considers it a great happiness and good chance to have passed along it to the said perfection of love, as it sings in this first stanza, calling this strait road with full propriety 'dark night,' as will be explained hereafter in the lines of the said stanza."

Walk worthy of your calling -- February 10, 2012
ReplyDeleteMy children, each one of you are unique, chosen and called by Me for My Kingdom purpose to be used by Me according to My plan and purpose for this time. You must walk worthy of your calling. You do not belong to yourself anymore. I bought you with the ultimate price, I shed My Blood for you on the Cross, you belong to Me. You are a Temple of My Holy Spirit. You must be holy for I am holy and I change not. You are My ambassadors on this earth and must be salt and light to the world. You cannot conform to the world and think that you are walking worthy of your calling. You must be different, separated unto Me, pleasing and doing My will and not your own or that of others. I am the King of kings and the Lord of lords, I am in control of My everlasting Kingdom, it is the only Kingdom that will last. Only those who are part of My everlasting Kingdom will be able to walk worthy of their calling. Seek first My Kingdom and My righteousness and then I will add all the other things unto you.
Be worthy of your calling, submit totally to Me, deny yourself, pick up your cross daily and follow Me every step of the way. Yield to My Spirit who will lead you and guide you into all truth. I will never leave you nor forsake you until the end.
Are you walking worthy of your calling? Am I pleased with you and are you obeying Me, doing My will, that is all that matters. Let no one take your crown. My child, you must walk worthy of your calling every day until the end. My gifts and My calling are irrevocable. I will judge and reward each one according to his deeds. Follow Me, wherever I am there My servant will also be.
